Classical Sci Fi Music

I have a few pages left in Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said . I have been reading it for quite some time now (mostly before bed) and have for the most part enjoyed it. I do not ever recommend reading any Dick book before bed. It can become confusing and you loose a lot if you are nodding off. Also it doesn't help de-weird weird dreams.
So finally towards the end there is a reference made for part of the title. Flow my tears is the name of the first abstract piece of music supposedly ever written. It was written in the 1600 by and Englishman by the name of John Dowland.
Well I listened to it and it doesn't sound so abstract to me. What gives?
